Brazil is the largest country in South America. It is the 5th largest country in the world in land area, and the 6th largest in population. It has a population of more than 215 million people! That is almost as much as all the rest of South America combined! Portuguese is the official language.
Although it is a gorgeous country, it is very dark spiritually! Brazil is dominated by Catholicism, as well as many other false religions, such as Spiritism and various forms of false Evangelicalism. There are still so many people that have never been reached with the Gospel. The need is so great!
We plan to work in the state of São Paulo, the most populated state in Brazil. To have an idea of the vastness of Brazil, traveling from France to Germany is about 1/3rd the distance it would be to travel from São Paulo to the Amazon!
The state of São Paulo has a population of more than 46 million people. If you would combine the populations of the countries of Chile, Bolivia, Uruguai and Paraguai, it would still not be as much as just the state of São Paulo! And, unfortunately, there are very few independent Baptist churches in São Paulo!
Just around the city of Jundiaí, the city where we have served in Brazil, there are at least 15 cities that don’t have a single Independent Baptist church, or even any church that would give the clear presentation of the Gospel!
